Hillclimb racing is a time trial form of motorsport where drivers in any type of car compete to achieve the best time between specified start and end points, up a hill. It is one of the oldest forms of motorsport (if not the oldest) with the first known Hillclimb race taking place in Nice, France in 1897. The Simola Hillclimb is a 4-day event held during the first weekend in May each year in Knysna. The event has become one of South Africa’s premier motorsport lifestyle events, with a growing international footprint.
After the Classic Car Friday contenders compete for glory on May 6, the King of the Hill action takes centre stage on May 7 and 8. It comprises three distinct categories for modern machines: road-going saloon cars and supercars; wild modified saloon cars; and specialised single-seaters and sports prototypes.
